Mentoring Program
Our curriculum supports mentees academically and social emotionally. Each grade level focuses on skills needed to be successful in the current school year and moving forward.
• Ninth grade (9th) focus is “How High School Works”. Sample topics include high school expectations vs. middle school, understanding your GPA, promotion requirements, getting involved in extracurricular activities, etc.
• Tenth grade (10th) focus is “Career Exploration”. Sample topics include finding your talents and gifts, the ‘real’ job descriptions, thinking outside the box, etc.
• Eleventh grade (11th) focus is “Life Beyond High School”. Sample topics include attending university or joining the workforce, finding apprenticeships, attending university- based summer camps, financial literacy, etc.
• Twelfth grade (12th) focus is “Campus and Community Leadership”. The senior mentees lead two service- learning projects (one per semester). Mentees brainstorm, get campus approval, organize, and follow-up on their selected projects. Mentors provide oversight and support.
